A 9 carat gold full hunter pocket watch

SKU: PC20069
£1,250.00

A fine full hunter pocket watch signed Waltham USA. All 9 carat gold case by Dennison, hallmarked Birmingham 1919. 50x50mm, depth 15mm. Number 89839.

White enamel dial with arabic figures and blue steeled hands. Centre seconds dial at six o'clock. Dial is perfect. Case closure is good. Top wound (non key) movement. The inner case does have an inscription and this is dated 1921. We would not advise removal.

It has a 15 jewel movement and this is signed by Waltham, and is a Marquise movement. This watch is currently functioning and is covered by a 1 year warranty.

In 1849 Aaron Lufkin Dennison, Edward Howard and David Davis formed a company with a plan to develop machinery that could mass produce watch movement parts with precision and render them interchangeable. Prior to this, all watches produced in America were handmade.

In operation between 1852 and 1957, over 40 million fine specimens of pocket watches, wrist watches, clocks and other precision instruments were produced by the Waltham factory. It was one of the most prolific American watch companies and by the early 1870s Waltham watches were winning prizes all over the world. In 1906 the company was renamed the "Waltham Watch Company". In 1923, they became the "Waltham Watch and Clock Company" reflecting the new importance of clock manufacturing, but then in 1925 the name was changed back to "Waltham Watch Company".American Horology owes much to the brilliant visionaries of the Waltham Watch Company. Bacon, Church, Dennison, Fogg, Howard, Marsh, Webster, and Woerd all contributed greatly to American watchmaking.Waltham continued to manufacture watches (and clocks) until 1957, when they ceased production and became the Waltham Precision Instrument Company. The rights to the name "Waltham Watch Company" were sold to the Hallmark Watch Company of Chicago, Illinois who continued to sell imported watches using the Waltham name. Several of the original Waltham factory buildings are still standing, and were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. The picture shown is the Waltham factory around 1906.

Customer reviews
Good range of fine vintage jewelry. Excellent service. We purchased a ring on trial, it wasn't quite right, but the entire purchase and return/refund process was quick and easy. Highly recommended.

Excellent quality item and I was surprised to find that it was lovelier than picture.  Delivery was also very fast.  Would definitely recommend the jewellers and would buy jewellery again from them.  Thank you.

Bought an Opal ring as a gift, lovely, but then saw another I preferred, still from Vintage Tom. Received both rings the day after purchase. I received a pre-paid envelope to send item back, which makes returns simple. I was refunded for the first ring the day after I had returned it. I preferred the first box, so they sent me that one too. Absolutely first class experience, can’t think of any other place I’ve shopped that comes close. Vintage Tom/Charles Hart Jewellers will be first on my list for any new purchase. If I could give 10 stars I would. Excellent.

I purchased an eternity ring for my wife via the Vintage Tom website. The whole experience has been great, not just the product but especially the team, particularly Alex Hart, who couldn't have been more helpful.

I ordered the ring on a Sunday evening and I got a tracking email saying it had been sent by 10.30am the next morning. The ring arrived quickly in a lovely box and was exactly as shown and described, it also came with a valuation certificate. This is the second time we have used Vintage Tom and both times we have been really impressed. They offer free resizing, free delivery and free returns and although we didn’t need to contact them this time around, when we did last time Alex was so helpful. I would absolutely recommend them.

Great service from a wonderful small business. My partner bought my vintage engagement ring from Charles Hart this year and I have recently found the perfect Christmas gift there for him too! Delivery was prompt and the item is in immaculate condition (and absolutely stunning!) It’s so much more pleasurable to shop with an independent business than the big chains and you get so much more for your money. Thank you again!
