An Art Deco sapphire and diamond marquise cluster ring
A fine Art Deco period cluster ring, marquise or navette shape. To the centre is a lovely cornflower blue oval cut sapphire 6x4.5mm . Four claws retain the sapphire . Surrounding the sapphire are twelve 0.07 carats, and two x 0.05 carat diamonds (approximate total carat weight just under one carat). Colour H-i, clarity Si.
The head measures 19x11mm, depth 5mm. Stones are set into platinum, the under setting is yellow gold, the shank also. It is stamped PLAT 18CT. Weight 4grams.
People ask, why is this shape called 'marquise'? It was said that the shape was used for the first time to resemble the smile of King Louis XV’s mistress, the Marquise of Pompadour, and used since those very old days of French romance and intrigue
Size T, but we can alter this quite easily.
