An antique fire opal and diamond cluster ring
A fine antique cluster ring containing a cushion shaped fire opal of exceptional quality surrounded by sixteen old cut white diamonds. Fire opal 11x11mm, rim set in yellow gold. Diamonds 2.4mm each, total estimated diamond weight of 0.80 carats.
Head 16x16mm, depth 6.5mm. Shank stamped 18CT testing as 18 carat gold. Weight 3.2grams. Period assessed at 1895-1905. Still in its original pink case. This fine ring is typical of the Belle Époque style.
Size N 1/2. We can resize of charge. Please note will probably only go down a max of 2 sizes, or up about 3 or 4.
Fire opals were virtually unknown to the rest of the world until the Spanish reached Mexico and Central America and discovered them, although they had been prized by the Aztecs for hundreds of years. Prior to that, the European gemstone market was relied on a small supply of opals from Hungary, then in the late 19th century opals were imported from newly discovered beds in Australia. So fire opals are expensive and sought after stones.
Most antique cut diamonds offer a very romantic and soulful appeal. Their most distinguishing characteristic is that they’re not as blingy or sparkly as most modern cut stones. Instead, antique cuts often feature larger faceting and a softer look. Many antique diamonds were meant to be viewed in the candlelight, offering a soft glow and romantic feel. Many people are attracted to the antique appearance of these cuts, especially if they appreciate vintage styles. The diamonds in this ring are darker in colour allowing the fire opal to really stand out.

International Orders
Delivered At Place (DAP), also known as Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU), means that the seller is responsible only for shipping the product and the customer is responsible for paying any import fees, including VAT, duties, and clearing fees. Delay in paying these fees may cause shipment delays or even returned shipments.
We are unable to accept international returns unless an item is faulty.

Bought an Opal ring as a gift, lovely, but then saw another I preferred, still from Vintage Tom. Received both rings the day after purchase. I received a pre-paid envelope to send item back, which makes returns simple. I was refunded for the first ring the day after I had returned it.
